League Overview

Time: Tuesday Evenings, 5:30 shotgun,  Teams should be on their assigned tee prior to the appropriate starting time in order to keep play moving.

Schedule: Matches will be played over a 10-week schedule beginning May 8, 2018.  Each team in a division will play all other teams in that division twice. The season will be broken into two 5-week halves.

Format: The 2018 League will consist of a maximum of 8 divisions with six two-person teams per division.  Matches will be played in foursomes on Tuesday nights only.  Tee assignments will be posted each week.

Match Scoring: Nine points (9) are scored for each match.  One point for each hole won (½ point for halves).  There is no point for winning the overall match.

Players:  The 2018 Women’s League will be open to any woman golfer with a current and active handicap.  In the event that the number of applicants exceeds the number of spots available, the committee will fill the league on a priority point basis with preference given to Hickory Ridge Golf Club members. Priority among non-members will be based on league play history, as well as substitute and waiting list status. Remaining slots will be filled by new players on a first come basis.  All registration forms should be postmarked by April 25th. The maximum stroke differential between partners shall be 7 strokes. Partners with differences greater than 7 strokes will have the higher handicap adjusted down.

Fees:  A league fee of $80.00 per player will cover prizes and the awards banquet at the conclusion of the season.  Non-members (HRGC) will be required to prepay greens fees of $200.00.  Players without a GHIN may join the league but will be required to purchase the handicap service for an additional $45.00 per year.

Handicaps:  All players and substitutes must have a legitimate handicap and GHIN in order to play in the league. Hickory Ridge will extend its handicap service to players who need a GHIN for a fee of $45.00.  Players should submit as many scorecards as possible in order to establish an accurate handicap.  Current handicaps will be in force and cards will be stroked by taking 80% of the difference between the lowest player’s handicap and each other player.

Recording Match Results: Preliminary match results may be recorded on the league scoring sheet immediately following the completion of the match. All matches will be reviewed and validated by the League Committee prior to final posting.

Skins:  An optional skins game will be played each week.  The cost to enter is $50.00 per team for the season. The skins pool will be broken into divisions.  All possible skins need to be posted on the Skins Scoring sheet immediately following play.  Skins will be paid in cash on the subsequent week.  Substitutes are NOT eligible to compete in the weekly skins competition.

Closest to the Pin Competition:  Each week, the player “Closest to the Pin” on holes 8 and 15 will receive a $10.00 cash prize. The payouts will be made the following week. Substitutes are NOT eligible to compete in the Closest to the Pin Competition.

Substitutes: It is the responsibility of each player to a get a substitute if she cannot play on a given Tuesday. Any women golfer with a legitimate handicap may act as a substitute providing the League committee is notified by 4 pm on Monday with the player’s name, phone or email address, handicap and GHIN number. In the case of an emergency, you may contact the Pro Shop after 10 am on Tuesday with your sub information. Do not send a substitute to play for you without notifying the League committee or the Pro Shop. It is best to find a substitute with a handicap similar to your own.  Please avoid using a substitute whose handicap is more than 10 strokes or less than 10 strokes of your own.  Players with differences greater than 7 strokes will have the higher handicap adjusted down. Non-member substitutes playing in the place of a HRGC member must pay for their greens fees ($20).  No member of the league may substitute for another.

If both members of the League are not able to play on a given Tuesday, you have 3 options:
•    Find one sub who will play by herself.  She will get the number of points earned MINUS 1
•    Find two subs who will play.  They will get the number of points earned MINUS 2
•    Find no subs and score ZERO for the match and other team plays against par.

No Shows:  In the event that one team does not show up for a given week, the team present will play against par with their full handicap. The team playing alone must play all nine holes.  The team that does not show up will receive zero points.

Computer Posting of 9-Hole Scores:  Players should not post their Tuesday night league scores in the computer or on the internet. Score cards will be turned into the League Committee and the Committee will post the scores for all players, including substitutes.

Speed of Play:  Playing nine holes of golf at Hickory Ridge should take 2:15 minutes.  Players are reminded that they should keep up with the group in front of them.  Players should pick up when their score is too high to possibly win the hole. In the event that all players on a hole have already taken 9 strokes, and have not holed out, all players should pick up and score the hole as a halved hole.

Rulings:  Play will be conducted by U.S.G.A. rules.  All decisions will be made by the committee and are final.  All questions on course play or rules will be handled by John Riordan and the Pro Shop staff.

Cancellations:  Matches will be cancelled because of weather only by the Golf Shop.  If play is to be cancelled, all matches scheduled for that week will be played the next week and all future matches will be pushed back one week on the schedule.  A decision not to play will be made by 4:00 p.m. except where conditions are unusual.  The decision to cancel will be communicated by the League Committee through email or you may contact the Pro Shop at 413-230-3360.

Banquet & Prizes: A league banquet will be held at the end of the season on a date to be decided. Prizes will be awarded to the winning and runner-up teams in each division for each half of the season and to the overall champion in each division.

Communications:  The preferred method of communication by the committee to all players will be by email.  Notices may also be posted in the locker room.  If you need to update your email address please contact Linda Petrozzi, lpetrozzi@comcast.net.
